Pencils of Promise works with communities across the globe to build schools and create programs that provide education opportunities for children, no matter where they were born, or what resources they have. Through school builds, scholarships, teacher support, and WASH programs, the organization supports education in more than 400 rural communities throughout Laos, Ghana, and Guatemala.

For the past eleven months, I’ve been working with Pencils of Promise as the Laos Programs Intern. I’ve been incredibly impressed by the organization’s local leadership, community and government partnerships, and commitment to sustainability. For my birthday this year, I’d like to continue supporting the organization’s mission to ensure child receives access to quality education.

Why education? While education is important to all of us for different reasons, education is especially important to me because of the transformative impact it’s had on my life. Five years ago, I was fortunate to receive a university scholarship from an education nonprofit. The scholarship changed my life and showed me the immeasurable impact that education and one donor’s generosity can have on a student’s life. I truly believe that every child has promise and should be given the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential.

Why Pencils of Promise? In countries where PoP operates, a little amount of money goes a long way. PoP is financially responsible; the organization’s relationship with the Ministry of Education in each country, rigorous monitoring and evaluation process, and comprehensive programs set them apart from other nonprofits in this sector. In addition to supporting education, PoP provides employment to more than 90% local staff in Laos, Ghana, and Guatemala.

If I could have anything for my birthday this year, I would wish for all children to be given the opportunity to realize their dreams and fulfill their potential. I hope you will join me in supporting education.

Thank you so much for your generosity and ongoing support!
